We went down to mums on Sunday. The idea being for me to do a couple of jobs when we got there. and for me to go out early Monday morning to do a maintanence visit to
Hey Diddle Diddle. Ufortunatly as you will be aware plans can go pear shaped. Mum had British Gas out to service her boiler and gas fire. They condemned the fire and disconnected it. She bought herself a new fire which comes complete with a surround. Unfortunately this meant ripping out the old fire place which was made of concrete, and ripping some wood panelling off the chimney breast. My big brother (well there is 8 years difference between us) did all the hard work, which unfortunately uncovered the most awfully wall paper you have ever seen. So out came my trusty steam stripper. We were late getting down to mums as we had to stop off to try and get some travel sickness pills for Stephen (who has developed a case of travel sickness on top of everything else), unfortunately they did not sell any so we got some Herbal Nytol instead, which was a great choice as you will see. Off we set again only to have to stop at Chester Services on the M56, which resulted in a big delay.
On parking up in the services, Nette spotted a RAC patrol doing some recruiting. As the warranty on the car has recently run out so we didn't have any breakdown cover. She went up to make some inquirys, well I felt sorry for the poor bloke, there he was stood there all peaceful and someone comes up and the first question is will you recover a caravan off a site as well. The poor bloke was stumaxed, and had to start refering to his terms and conditions book. We left him looking whilst we went in and when we came out he had sorted it out. Then came the offer she could have a free visit to a spa, Nette jumped at this chance until we hit a crunch. Cover is on a personal basis not vehicle based, that would mean that if the car broke down we were only covered if she was in it. Ok change it to joint membership, but out goes the day at the Spa. Forms filled out and then Nette points out that she's a Blue Badge holder, this changed everything again. As it is a different package, he had to do all his sums again, resulting in a saving of over £25 for the same package. All sorted and off we set again to mums.
On arrival we saw the awfully wallpaper, then I went out the back with Trixie, and saw the pile of rubble as well. As we were tacking Mum to get some stuff from Focus, and it being Sunday there was no time to take it to the tip that day. Shopping trip over and I got down to stripping the walls. mission completed and it was time for tea.
Monday mornings plans were out the window as there was too much to do.First job Monday morning load the car for the first trip to the tip, Stephanie came with me. What a shock, I've lost track of the no of times I've been to the local tip (I worked for Manchester City Council Cleansing Services, and used to tip there), the public tip area has changed beyond belief. And they've added a hight barrier which is 5ft9in high. The area is a U shape with a island in the middle, this now has containers for Motor Oil, clothes, paper, Glass, and Building Rubble. The general tipping area is now divided into scrap metal, wood, Green Waste (branches and other cuttings) which goes to be used in Landscaping, and general waste. Rubbish sorted and back to mums for load 2, this time a old fold up bed, and a wooden gate, Nette came with me this time.
After we'd had dinner it was time to leave, as Mum had some Travel Sickness pills, so Stephen took one for the return journey, big mistake. Stephen has a reaction to sedatives, he goes hyperactive (a doctor prescribed Diclofenic to calm him down and act as a pre op, after tacking a adult does strong enough to knock me out, he just run around the house absolutely wild, causing the procedure to be cancelled), he turned into a motor mouth and just could not shut up. As we were taking a slight side trip to show Stephen our new caravan, this meant we had to spend extra time with him like this. After seeing the caravan (named Tizzie) off we set again home, it wasn't until we got to near Chester Services did her shut up.
So there you go a eventfull Bank Holiday weekend.
