How many times have you meet other cachers at or near a cache?
Sounds a funny question. Apart from cache events, the chances of meeting a fellow cacher at a cache, is very rare, some cachers with hundreds of finds, might have never bumped into a fellow cacher out in the field.
Since Satarday I've bumped into cachers 4 times, twice at Warren Dee Wind Farm. On Satarday after walking Trixie in the dunes, we were approaching the shoulder barrier, when I saw 3 persons stood at it, with the geocachers look about them (staring at their palms), they came through the barrier and walked towards us. It was David and Rachel (Happy Landins), who had Fruity with them, a quick challenge of "are you geocachers" gave them a surprise until they recognised me (we have meet at several events, a quick chat, and they were on their way to find the cache, whilst Trixie went back to Nette, who was waiting in the car.
Sunday and I headed out to do some location scouting for a cache, before I contact the Land Manager regarding permission, and as I was going past I thought that I'd do Get Cross In a Field, on approaching the location, there was a car parked there. Oh well, I'll do it on the way back, hang on, that person is looking for something! Turned around and parked up facing the car, and recognised who it was, only half of IREC666, well that set me off laughing. He looked at the car, and I could see from his face, it was a case of "oh no muggles", which quickly changed to "hang on I know him", I got out of the car and walked up to them, just in time to sign the log, we had a brief chat, and then continued on our ways.
Sunday night and I noticed that Shopping Escape had not yet been logged, so I thought I'd shoot of to do it, didn't expect to get the FTF, but thought it might be worth a try. My daughter Stephanie (Dolly Girl) came with me. We found the parking place ok (remember this is night time) about 30m from a security lodge. All of a sudden a car pulls up next to us, "oh no it's a security guard, wanting to know what we're up to". I was very relived to find out it was Phoenix, coming back to tell us that it had already been found. But you should have seen his face when he told us that rjl194, had beaten him to the FTF on it, he was gutted. After a chat, he went on his way, and we with Trixie went to find the cache.
If your keeping track, you'll know that I've bumped into cachers 3 times in the last few days, well it doesn't end there!
Today after 2 DNF's on Warren Dee, I decided to do a full circuit maintanence visit on it. Being a local, I don't use the car park, but park up slightly closer to the Path into the dunes. I got out of the car and was putting my coat on, when I saw a couple walking towards me, and guess what, once again doing the geocachers walk, as they walked past the back of the car, I saw a cache page. Unfortunately I gave them a shock when I asked if they were going to do Warren Dee. Introductions were made, this time I'd bumped into MO & Mike (Moorlander)from Cornwall. We joined forces, and proceeded to head to the first micro, with Trixie doing a brilliant distraction job, by running up the wrong paths. Micro no 1 was soon found, and of to micro no2, which on arrival was found to be surrounded by water. A quick prod with my stick, and it turned out to be only 10cm to 15cm deep, but as I had a appointment later on, I didn't want to get wet feet. The co-ords to the final cache were passed over, and off we set. At the final location, after looking in the correct place, and not finding the Ammo can, it was my sad duty to confirm that it had been muggled. As the location is not somewhere that a casual find, would reveal, souronded by brambles and a good 6m to 8m away from the path, and as the cover was put back, I can only presume that it has been taken on purpose, by someone who knows its there. I told Mo & Mike to log it as a find, as they have done all the parts, on the way back to the car, they did the bonus cache, and signed that log. Warren Dee was their 199th find, they will have well broken the 200 barrier before retuning home as they had other caches to visit today alone.
